Two-Sides of the Mirror

I search your face, longingly
Trying to detect traces of my own
Trying to find evidence
Something that connects us

I almost think I have it
But then it’s gone

I search your face again,
Trying to recognise aspects of my own
But I can only see your aspects
I cannot contemplate the whole
An eye
Are we the same?
I cannot tell

Perhaps I am blind to my own appearance
Perhaps my emotions run too deep
Blurring my vision

I search your face, desperately
Trying to find some element of myself
I almost think I’ve found it
But I cannot be sure

The people with you surely know you better,
Surely know you deeper,
But they do not search your face for their own image.
